Last summer, over 8 million people traveled through Logan Airport in July and August on their way to destinations all over the world. Another over 600,000 went through Portland.
But this summer, you may not have to hop on a flight to hit some of the top travel destinations in the United States.
According to Google Flights data from late March, Bangor, Maine, close to Acadia National Park, is the ninth top trending destination for domestic travel for summer 2025.
Here’s what else to know about where to go this summer and when to get your tickets.
The top trending destinations searched on Google Flights for trips departing June 1 through Aug. 31, 2025 include three in New England.
Bangor claimed the ninth spot, and two others in the top ten are within driving distance from Maine: Nantucket, Massachusetts and Providence, Rhode Island.
According to Google Flights, passengers are looking for easy access to the outdoors, including the beach.
Average prices for U.S. flights are usually cheapest around 38 days before departure, with the historical low-price range between 21 to 52 days before takeoff, according to Google Flights.
According to Expedia, you should book one to three months ahead of a domestic flight for up to 25% savings compared to last-minute bookings, and just 18 to 29 days before departure is when the lowest fares are often posted.
The 2025 Expedia report also found that Sunday is the best day of the week to book.
