The Canadian government is warning travellers to Jamaica and other Caribbean countries as Hurricane Melissa approaches.

Canadian government officials are warning people against travelling to parts of the Caribbean as Hurricane Melissa approaches the area.
The Category 5 storm is expected to make landfall in Jamaica on Tuesday and then rip through Cuba, the Bahamas and other islands through Wednesday.
Some news reporting suggests the storm could be the strongest hurricane to ever hit Jamaica.
“Avoid all travel to Jamaica due to Hurricane Melissa,” Canada’s travel advisory for Jamaica said.
The Jamaican government has ordered evacuations in parts of the country’s capital city, Kingston, and both its international airports, in Kingston and Montego Bay, are closed.
The Canadian government has travel warnings in the following places due to Hurricane Melissa:
Keep in mind, the “avoid all travel” warning for Haiti was already in place even before this storm.
In its travel advisory for Jamaica, the Government of Canada said people can expect excessive rainfall and violent winds that could cause flash flooding and landslides.
Essential services such as transportation, power distribution, water and food supply, telecom networks, emergency services and medical care could be disrupted.
