American Airlines to add only nonstop flight to Bimini from Florida, here's where and when – The Palm Beach Post

American Airlines is launching the only nonstop service to Bimini in the Bahamas from the United States, starting on Valentine’s Day in 2026. And it’ll be from Miami, according to a Sept, 8 release.
“American knows that travelers are looking for unique and varied experiences, and that’s why we’ve added destinations like Bimini to our network,” said Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network Planning. “We recently announced new routes for travelers to explore unique architecture in Prague or Budapest or ski down exciting slopes in Sun Valley, and now we’re offering a new island option in the Bahamas.”
Starting Feb. 14, the roundtrip flight from Miami International Airport (MIA) will run Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays on Embraer 175 aircraft, the company said.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline has 10 U.S. hubs, including Miami.
American also recently announced a new flight between Miami and Milan starting in March, expanded service at Destin-Fort Walton Beach, a new Sarasota-Miami flight, and free high-speed Wi-Fi on most flights starting next year.
Like most other airlines, American is dealing with a downward trend in domestic and international travel and other problems.
On Christmas Eve last year, American temporarily grounded all its flights due to a “technical issue.”
In January, an American Airlines flight — which was co-piloted by Jonathan Jay Campos of Ormond Beach — collided with a military helicopter over the Potomac River in Washington, D.C., killing 67 people.
In July, passengers aboard an American Airlines flight from Denver to Miami were forced to evacuate using the emergency slides after their aircraft experienced a mechanical issue during takeoff. A former American Airlines flight attendant was sentenced to nearly two decades in prison for secretly recording young girls in airport bathrooms, and in August an American Airlines flight was diverted after a “customer’s device” caught on fire.
American Airlines attempted to merge with JetBlue Airways but courts ruled against it and in June the Supreme Court declined to hear the airline’s appeal.
Traffic at Miami International Airport has also declined in 2025, down an average of 1.4% compared to the first half of 2024, the Miami Herald reported. American Airlines is MIA’s largest carrier.
American Airlines serves several Florida airports, according to its website, including:
