June may be the month for weddings, but May is for “Explore Florida & the Caribbean,” our award-winning travel magazine, with a list of 15 “Only in Florida’’ wedding venues.
“With pristine white-sand beaches, palm trees that sway in the breeze and picture-perfect sunsets, Florida has always been an ideal place for couples to say, ‘I do,’” writes Orlando Sentinel’s Patrick Connolly in his story in the new issue. “From an inventor’s homemade Airbnb village and wedding venue named after himself (Danville) to a sternwheeler steamboat on the St. Johns River, the Sunshine State offers plenty of spaces for vows to be made and love stories to unfold.”
We’ll also go aboard the “Star Pride,” one of the smaller Windstar Cruises ships, for big adventures to Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, St. Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Tobago and Barbados; head south on US 1 to the Keys for summer fun in Islamorada and Key West; and learn how to take advantage of over 400 Florida hotel pools, spas and amenities – at least for a day – with ResortPass. We’ll try out the new Golf & Racquet Club at The Breakers Palm Beach with tennis greats Andre Agassi, Steffi Graf, Andy Roddick and Kim Clijsters; check out a landmark hotel that may be the first on party-hearty South Beach to add a staff librarian; and go on a relaxing inner-tube float on Florida rivers.
All that traveling may work up an appetite, and Orlando Sentinel food writer Amy Drew Thompson also is here with some restaurants she says may be out of sight, but shouldn’t be out of mind on your next day trip to the Gulf Coast.
All of this – plus comprehensive calendars of good reasons to travel throughout Florida and the Caribbean basin this summer – in the new issue of “EF&C,” a collaboration of the South Florida Sun Sentinel and Orlando Sentinel. View the digital magazine here.
