Ramadan Travel Trends 2024-2025: Saudi Travelers Embrace Spiritual Journeys and Luxury Experiences

As the sacred month of Ramadan approaches, Wego—the leading travel app and largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)—unveils key insights into the evolving travel patterns of Saudi travelers during this significant period. From spiritual pilgrimages and homecoming visits to leisure getaways, Wego’s latest data reveals a surge in bookings and shifting preferences shaping Ramadan 2024 travel, while also offering early indicators for 2025.

Surging Demand for Ramadan Travel

Ramadan continues to be a peak travel season for Saudi residents, with a noticeable uptick in bookings driven by religious observances, cultural connections, and leisure pursuits. Wego’s recent data reports an impressive 131.69% month-over-month increase in travel reservations, signaling a significant rise in both domestic and international travel demand as Ramadan nears.
March is expected to see peak travel activity, with Egypt, India, and Pakistan emerging as the top international destinations—reflecting strong familial and cultural ties. Meanwhile, Jeddah, Riyadh, and Dammam remain the most popular domestic choices, catering to travelers seeking a blend of spiritual enrichment, family reunions, and premium leisure experiences.

Luxury and Comfort: The Preferred Travel Experience

Saudi travelers are prioritizing high-end hospitality, with 4- and 5-star hotels making up 53.12% of all accommodation bookings across domestic and international destinations. This trend highlights a growing preference for luxury accommodations and premium services, ensuring a seamless and comfortable travel experience during Ramadan.
A key driver of travel remains the desire to perform Umrah, with Makkah continuing to be the focal point. The top five most-booked hotels in Saudi Arabia for Ramadan 2024 and 2025 are all located in Makkah, reaffirming its central role in religious tourism. While Umrah can be undertaken throughout the year, its significance is heightened during Ramadan, drawing visitors seeking a spiritually immersive experience.
Alongside high-end hotels, aparthotels and luxury resorts have gained traction, offering a balance of exclusivity, comfort, and privacy—particularly appealing to families and individuals seeking extended stays.

Solo Travel Gains Momentum

A striking trend in Saudi Arabia’s travel landscape is the rise of solo travel. Wego’s data reveals that 76.32% of Saudi travelers booking Ramadan trips in 2024 were solo travelers, with early figures for 2025 indicating the continuation of this pattern.
While family and couples’ travel remains strong, the increasing preference for solo journeys suggests a shift toward personalized and introspective travel experiences. This trend is particularly noticeable among younger generations who seek flexibility in planning their spiritual and leisure trips.

The Rise of Mobile-First Travel Planning

The digital revolution continues to shape travel planning, with 62% of all Ramadan 2024 bookings made through the Wego app. This growing reliance on mobile platforms underscores the demand for seamless booking experiences, real-time travel updates, and personalized itinerary management.
As Ramadan remains one of the most significant travel periods of the year, Wego remains committed to providing tailored travel solutions, from last-minute deals and luxury getaways to budget-friendly accommodations—ensuring Saudi travelers find the best options to meet their needs.
