A notice sent to the state said Legoland Florida will permanently lay off 234 employees. Here's what we know about the jobs to be cut.
Legoland Florida will cut hundreds of jobs soon.
According to a Jan. 28 notice the company sent to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, 234 jobs at the themed entertainment park’s Winter Haven location are impacted.
The layoffs begin March 25 and will conclude April 7. As outlined in the notice, most of the staff affected will be entertainers or entertainment support staff.
Executives for Legoland Florida were not immediately available for comment.
In recent years, Legoland Florida’s entertainment offerings have included character meet-and-greets and live shows. Performers, technicians and stage managers — roles which will be affected by the layoffs — have brought these experiences to life.
Among the notable meet-and-greets at Legoland Florida are Girl & Boy, Shark Suit Guy and Emmet and Wyldstyle from “The Lego Movie.”
In one show, a producer and guest judges for the television program “Go Xtreme!” audition new stunt acts.
Created for very young children, “Time to Learn” is an interactive show in the Duplo Valley Schoolhouse that engages kids in foundational science, reading and writing.
Ninjago Weekends are occasional activations designed to help guests master elemental powers as defined by the superhero series. The Dream Creation Station in Fun Town is a 20-minute interactive experience where you build fantastical creatures with guidance from a Dream Chaser Apprentice.
The notice did not say if any specific experiences described above will be eliminated.
Brickbeard’s Watersport Stunt Show, featuring water skiing and wakeboarding stunts performed by watersports athletes, was discontinued in December. Legoland Florida Resort is sited on the property that was once Cypress Gardens and the stunt show program was the progeny of Cypress Gardens’ waterski shows.
Legoland is owned by U.K.-based Merlin Entertainments Group Ltd.
