With so many amazing places out there, we went on the hunt for the best small towns in each region and across multiple categories by teaming up with a panel of travel writers to make nominations. Then, readers voted for the best in each category. Here are the best small towns in the United States for 2026.

Located along California’s Central Coast, Pismo Beach draws in plenty of visitors with its quiet beaches and array of wineries and outlet shopping. With over 40 historic Texas landmarks around Granbury, many dating back to the town’s founding in 1866, it’s bursting with history. From the massive Hood County Courthouse and Historic Granbury Square to the Hood County Jail Museum, Yeates-Duke 1858 Working Museum, and newly restored Grand Opera House, Granbury is where Texas history comes alive.
Located around 70 miles southwest of Dallas, it’s a small town that’s worth a detour off the beaten path. Don’t miss the graveyard, where Jesse James is said to be buried — his headstone is here, at least!

There’s a little slice of Switzerland in Indiana, right on the Ohio River in the town of Vevay. Settled by Swiss immigrants in 1802, the village became an enclave of wine producers; now, the town holds the Swiss Wine Festival every year. Vevay still has a number of buildings from its early days, including the Benjamin Schenck Mansion, built in 1874.

Known as the “Peach Capital of Colorado,” Palisade is located north of the Colorado River near Grand Junction.
