High temperatures are forecast throughout the UK this week and may affect how our trains operate.
To keep trains running reliably, we’ll be introducing a reduced timetable from Tuesday, 23 to Friday, 26 June, and temporary speed restrictions are in place on some routes. We strongly recommend that customers check before they travel.
Extreme heat can affect both rail infrastructure and train performance.
Higher temperatures increase the risk of faults and delays, which can make services less reliable.
To reduce this risk, we are running fewer trains so we can focus on keeping the trains that do run operating as reliably as possible.
We will continue to monitor conditions closely and may make further changes.
If you’re travelling this week, please check your full journey, including connections, before you travel.
Live train times, planned disruption and events, all in one place.
If you’re travelling on the following routes, in either direction, please allow extra time and check before you travel:
Due to the continued extreme heat, we have significantly reduced the number of trains running on routes in and out of Manchester, and services remain in high demand.
We strongly recommend customers consider whether their journey is necessary and if customers do choose to travel this week, they are advised to prepare for significantly longer waiting times, busy trains and short-notice cancellations.
We would ask all customers to only travel if your journey is absolutely essential and to check your full journey before setting off.
We know some of our customers still need to travel, and we are doing everything we can to keep people moving as efficiently as possible.
Customers with tickets for travel between Tuesday, 23 and Friday, 25 June have more flexibility.
If you no longer wish to travel, you can get a full refund from where you bought your ticket.
For season ticket holders, your usual Delay Repay arrangements will apply.
