TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The surge in gas prices might be changing people’s travel plans but it’s not enough to deter people from visiting the Sunshine State.
Tourism in Florida has remained strong, according to data from Visit Florida.
The report estimates that nearly 40 million people visited Florida between January and March, down about 1% from the same time last year.

Of those 40 million people who visited the state in the first quarter of this year, almost 37 million of them were visiting from the United States. That’s almost 92% of total visitations to the Sunshine State.
Canadian visitation is estimated at nearly 1 million for the first quarter of the year, accounting for nearly 3% of total visitation.
