Starting May 4, travelers along California’s Central Coast will have another daily option to get between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo.
The Pacific Surfliner will expand service to include six daily trips to Goleta and three daily trips to San Obispo, a move that Amtrak says will improve weekday commuter flexibility and regional connectivity between Los Angeles, Ventura County, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo.
The additional round-trip service also improves schedule availability during peak weekday rush hour periods while offering riders a comfortable alternative to driving, according to the announcement. Riders can view updated schedules and plan their trips at www.pacificsurfliner.com/goSLO
The Pacific Surfliner service is one of the busiest state-supported intercity passenger rail routes in the nation, logging 1.9 million trips in fiscal year 2023-24, and operates along a 351-mile coastal corridor connecting San Diego County, Orange County, Los Angeles, Ventura County, Santa Barbara County, and San Luis Obispo County.
“Expanding Pacific Surfliner service helps strengthen regional mobility and provides travelers with more convenient options along the Central Coast,” said Jason Jewell, Managing Director of the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, a joint powers authority made up of rail owners, operators, and planning agencies. The agency has managed the Pacific Surfliner Service since 2015.
The Pacific Surfliner service offers amenities including comfortable seating, power outlets, free Wi-Fi, and scenic coastal views, making it a cozy alternative for weekday commuting, business travel and leisurely trips along the coast.
The Pacific Surfliner is gearing up for the World Cup, offering travelers to the games in Southern California a code for discounted fares if they sign up with their email address.
The promotion is for 20% off train travel to and from Los Angeles and is valid from May 1 to July 15, 2026.

Riders are advised to book early and reserve your ticket in advance to secure the best departure times for match day travel. A handy guide for “last-mile” travel from the station to the stadium can be found at Metro’s World Cup page.
