Amtrak is expanding its Pacific Surfliner train service to San Luis Obispo, adding a third daily roundtrip between Los Angeles and SLO starting on May 4, 2026. The additional route will increase total Pacific Surfliner frequencies to six daily trips to Goleta and three daily trips to SLO, improving availability during peak commute times and providing travelers a comfortable alternative to driving.
The Pacific Surfliner is a vital transportation link along the Central California coast, connecting major cities and offering scenic ocean views. Increasing service frequency will make the train a more convenient option for both commuters and leisure travelers, supporting regional mobility and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
The new Los Angeles-San Luis Obispo roundtrip route will complement the existing two daily Surfliner trips to SLO. Amtrak says the expansion will improve connectivity across the 351-mile Pacific Surfliner corridor, which spans from San Diego to San Luis Obispo counties.
