Where are New Yorkers traveling for spring break? See the top spots – Democrat and Chronicle

After months of snow, ice and bitter cold weathers, many New Yorkers are preparing for a week away.
Spring break is nearly upon us. But where are people traveling to this year? Some folks travel to their favorite warm-weather destination while others will embark on a one-time trip prepared to create lifetime memories.
According to an IPX survey, nearly 1 in 5 Americans (19%) are planning a spring break trip in 2026. Economic pressures are influencing 2026 plans, though, according to the survey; 20% of those surveyed are traveling closer to home due to cost and 16% are skipping spring break travel altogether this year.
AAA has shared its top domestic and international destinations for 2026, based on AAA Travel booking data, as Americans travel the next few weeks for spring break.

Many Americans are flocking to Florida, as four cities in the Sunshine State are among the top five domestic travel destinations.
According to AAA, many travelers prefer to hit the road for spring break, whether they fly to their destination or travel by car.
Orlando, Los Angeles and Phoenix are the most popular rental destinations, according to Hertz car rental company, and the top bookings by state include Florida, California, Texas, Hawaii and Arizona
A European getaway is the way to go this spring break with six of the top 10 international travel destinations this year in Europe. “Spring break in Europe appeals to families looking for history and entertainment,” according to AAA.
According to AAA, flights to domestic hot spots are about 2% higher than in 2025, averaging around $815 for a roundtrip fare. In comparison, international flights are less expensive compared to 2025 rates – though still pricier than traveling within the United States – and are averaging around $1,000 for a roundtrip fare.
