Tampa locals and visitors looking for a love-infused weekend of activities need to pay close attention to street closures and travel recommendations. With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, the city is expecting an influx of people ready to be part of the celebrations between Friday and Sunday. A statement obtained by Tampa.gov advises attendees to utilize alternative transport options like the FREE TECO Line Streetcar, DASH Service, and HART buses, or to pedal their way through on scooters or bikes.
Among the diverse array of events are the Beer, Bourbon & BBQ at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park kicking off at 6 PM on Friday and restarting at noon the following day, as well as multiple performances at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts throughout the weekend. The Krewe of the Knights of Sant’ Yago Parade promises to add extra vibrancy to Ybor City starting 7 PM on Valentine’s Day. Tampa.gov emphasizes: “Make this Valentine’s weekend fun, safe, and stress-free!”
For the sports enthusiasts, Tampa United Volleyball’s Gasparilla event will take place early mornings on both Saturday and Sunday at the Tampa Convention Center, while the Tampa Bay Sun’s face-off at Suncoast Credit Union Field is scheduled for a 7:30 PM start Saturday evening. Additionally, the Water Street Market will welcome visitors on Sunday at 10 AM, before another round of Straz shows.
In light of the anticipated crowds, Tampa.gov suggests that “Exercise extra caution around event zones as pedestrian activity will be heavy.” This is particularly significant given the numerous road closures that will occur to accommodate the procession of festivities. For those unable, or unwilling, to avoid their cars, updated road closure information is crucial and is available through the Tampa website. Additionally, in the true spirit of community vigilance, the advisory notes, “If you see something, say something!” reinforcing the shared responsibility for a secure weekend.
