Eurostar issued a status update earlier today in which it said that services are being subjected to “severe delays” and “last-minute cancellations”.
The company said in its statement: “Due to a problem with the overhead power supply and a subsequent failed Le Shuttle train the Channel tunnel is currently closed.

“Unfortunately, this means we have no choice but to suspend all services today until further notice. Please do not come to the station. We’re very sorry for the impact the situation may have on your travel plans.”
Eurostar operate routes from London St Pancras to Paris Gare du Nord, as well as routes to Amsterdam Centraal, Brussels and Cologne. Hundreds of thousands of passengers normally travel on Eurostar services over the Christmas and New Years’ period, with passengers numbers also hitting almost 20 million annually.
Customers who have been affected by today’s disruption have been given options to adjust or cancel their journey.
For those who want to rearrange their plans, Eurostar is offering the opportunity to exchange your booking for free, cancel your booking in exchange for an e-voucher, or cancel your journey for a full refund. You can find more information on how to claim these options on the Eurostar website.

Train company LNER have said that any customer who have been forced to abandon their journey at London’s King Cross Station are being offered the option to return to their home station at no extra cost. The company said in a statement: “LNER customers with tickets dated Tuesday, December 30, who have been affected can travel on an alternative LNER train today, December 30.
“Any customers who have had to abandon their journey in London King’s Cross can return to their home station on the next available LNER service at no additional cost. LNER customers who choose to defer their Eurostar travel to a different day may use their existing LNER ticket to travel on the same day.”
