PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – More than 8 million people are expected to fly during the holiday travel rush as 2025 comes to a close, according to AAA.
Airlines are expecting packed flights from now through the end of the year as travelers head home for Christmas. The countdown to the new year has begun, along with one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
At Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP), officials are sharing tips to help travelers navigate the busy period smoothly.
“One of the things we always want to tell people is check your flight schedule to make sure your plane is on time. Pack your patience in your carry-on and just come to the airport, realizing that everyone else isn’t used to traveling. There are a lot of people only traveling once a year and this is when that is. So bring your patience, come with a smile, and this should be a great experience,” Executive Director of ECP Parker McClellan said.
For those parking at ECP, a free shuttle service is available to transport passengers to and from the terminal. Officials also recommend knowing what items can and cannot be brought through security to help keep lines moving.
Madison Ratway drove from Tallahassee to fly out of ECP after her father found her a cheaper flight. She said the extra drive was worth it and ECP may become her preferred airport.
“So far it’s been a really easy experience. It’s a lot smaller than the other airports I’ve been to. I haven’t been through too much of it yet. But I think I’ll end up having a lot more extra time on my hands because it’s a real easy travel experience compared to Pensacola or even Jacksonville,” Ratway said.
While Christmas travel is already busy, airport officials expect crowds to increase as the year ends. Officials recommend checking with airlines ahead of time before heading to the airport. You can find details regarding your flight at iFlyBeaches.Com
