Weather Today LIVE Updates: Delhi-NCR and most parts of north India are set to feel the chill on Tuesday and through the week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting intense cold and foggy conditions.
The IMD has forecast dense fog in several parts of India up until 27 December, with disruptions to visibility expected during the night and early morning hours.
Delhi on Tuesday is expected to see a low of 10 degrees Celsius, while neighbouring Gurugram and Noida are forecast to see lows of 8 degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Here’s what IMD said
The IMD’s forecast indicates that dense to very dense fog conditions are anticipated during night and morning hours, especially over Punjab until December 27 and over Uttar Pradesh until December 23, as well as from December 25 to 28.
Dense to very dense fog is highly likely during night and morning hours over Punjab until the 27th, and over Uttar Pradesh from the 23rd and again during 25th–28th December. Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi are expected to experience dense fog between the 24th and 27th.
Isolated pockets of the western Himalayan region may also witness dense fog during night and morning hours from the 22nd to the 27th. Similar foggy conditions are very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from the 22nd to the 29th, over Bihar and Odisha from the 22nd to the 27th, over Rajasthan, north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and north Madhya Pradesh until the 23rd, and over northeast India from the 22nd to the 25th of December.
Cold day to severe cold day conditions are very likely in isolated areas of East Uttar Pradesh on the 22nd. Cold day conditions are also likely in isolated pockets of West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand on the 22nd, and over Bihar from the 22nd to the 26th of December.
Flights may face a delay, says Delhi Airport
Flight delays can also be expected in the national capital on Tuesday due to visibility issues—on Monday, over 500 flights were delayed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) due to poor visibility and bad weather conditions.

Amid an intensifying cold wave sweeping across northern India, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday appealed to citizens to remain calm and extend compassion to those in need, asserting that the state government is working with sensitivity and urgency to mitigate the impact of extreme weather conditions.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated that officials across the state have been instructed to adopt a humane and people-centric approach when implementing relief measures. He emphasised that protecting every life during the harsh winter is a top priority for the government.

Varanasi was shrouded in morning fog as minimum temperature recorded at 10 degrees Celsius. IMD has predicted dense fog warning in Uttar Pradesh till December 25th.
IMD said in an official release, “Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall/snowfall very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad on 22nd, 23rd and 27th & 28th and isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall over Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand on 22nd & 28th December.”
Isolated Thunderstorm and lightning likely to prevail over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on 27th & 28th December, said IMD.
