Asia Pacific tourism is experiencing a historic recovery in 2025, with China, Japan, the USA, Macao, Thailand, Brazil, and Australia driving the surge. According to the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), 295.7 million international visitors (IVAs) have been recorded in the first half of 2025, reflecting a 5.4% increase compared to the same period last year and achieving a remarkable 92.6% recovery from pre-pandemic tourism levels. These figures point to the region nearing a full rebound, with strong performances from some of the world’s most popular destinations.
In 2024, the Asia Pacific region saw 647.9 million IVAs, a 24.1% increase from the previous year. China, leading the charge, welcomed over 127 million visitors, representing nearly 20% of the region’s total IVAs, while Japan experienced a 47.1% growth with 36.87 million visitors. The USA also showed impressive growth, attracting 72 million tourists to the region. The first half of 2025 has continued to see this growth trend, particularly with Japan leading the pack with a 24.5% year-on-year increase and Macao following closely with a 14.9% rise in IVAs.
