A US budget airline has hit the pause button on its services, announcing it will stop all flights from Palm Springs International Airport from November 29.

Frontier Airlines confirmed the move this week, saying it will temporarily halt operations at the airport, which serves thousands of travellers heading to and from the Coachella Valley each month.
A Frontier spokesperson said: “We are pausing our service at PSP at the end of next month in response to current market demand, but will continue to monitor conditions for opportunities to resume services.
“We greatly appreciate our partnership with the airport and the greater Palm Springs community.”
The airline currently flies to Denver and San Francisco, two major US cities still served by other carriers.

The airport stressed that travellers won’t lose any nonstop options following Frontier’s withdrawal.
A spokesperson for Palm Springs International Airport said: “Palm Springs International Airport is not losing any nonstop destinations following Frontier’s decision to cease operations at PSP effective Nov. 29.
“Denver and San Francisco, the two routes Frontier served, remain offered year-round by other carriers: United and Southwest to DEN and United and Alaska to SFO.
“PSP continues to see record passenger growth, up nearly 5 per cent year-to-date compared to last year, and we remain optimistic about continued strong air service in our market.”

The low-cost airline only returned to Palm Springs last year after a previous suspension of routes, part of its efforts to expand across the US with affordable fares and a no-frills model.
Its renewed pause reflects a challenging period for budget carriers facing fluctuating demand, fuel costs, and changing travel habits.
Despite Frontier’s departure, Palm Springs International Airport continues to attract record passenger numbers and remains a key hub for both domestic and international visitors.
Other airlines have increased flights to major cities, helping to maintain the airport’s strong growth and year-round connectivity.
Similar moves have been made by other airlines this year. Spirit Airlines recently scaled back its flights at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, citing lower winter demand.
Allegiant Air temporarily suspended some routes from Las Vegas and Orlando, while JetBlue announced cuts to several transcontinental services, including New York to Los Angeles, as it restructured operations to focus on higher-performing markets.
Even major carriers have made adjustments, Delta Air Lines reduced flights from Los Angeles to Maui due to softer tourism figures, and American Airlines trimmed some international routes to Europe for the winter season.
Industry analysts say it’s not unusual for airlines to temporarily adjust routes based on seasonal or market conditions. Frontier has not ruled out returning to Palm Springs in the future.
For now, passengers hoping to fly the budget-friendly route will need to look to alternative carriers, as the airline “pauses” its operations from the end of November.

Plus, many airlines note in their condition of carriage that they aren’t liable for the flights missed through delay mixups.
Spirit Airlines says, “In the event of a delay, guests are recommended to remain in the gate area for updates and possible early departures.
“Spirit shall not be liable to any guest who missed a flight, which departed earlier than the estimated departure time posted for the delay.”
