Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Tuesday afternoon, leading to widespread traffic disruptions and prompting the diversion of 15 flights from the Delhi airport.
According to an official, eight of the affected flights were diverted to Jaipur, five to Lucknow, and two to Chandigarh. The sudden downpour also brought down temperatures and darkened skies, offering brief relief from the recent humidity but creating chaos on the roads.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued orange and yellow alerts for Delhi, warning of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
According to the forecast, wind speeds of 40–60 kmph are likely in parts of central, southwest, west, northwest, and north Delhi.
