BUFFALO, N.Y. — Commercial traffic is slowly making its way into Canada following a lengthy delay due to a system outage.
Tractor Trailers were lined up on the I-190 near the Peace Bridge and Lewiston Queenston bridges for several hours while officials worked to fix the problem
The Canadian Border Services Agency confirmed the issue affected ports of entry along the Southern Ontario Region beginning late Monday evening.
The agency says although the outage has been partially resolved, commercial drivers should still expect delays.
“We are working closely with IT partners to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Primary inspection lanes (PIL) at Peace Bridge and Queenston-Lewiston bridge have been staffed with officers to process traffic and shipments. We are actively working with our partners at the Peace Bridge Authority and the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission to assist with traffic control. We thank commercial drivers for their cooperation and apologize for any inconvenience,” said a spokesperson for the agency.
Commercial traffic heading into the US is not impacted.
NITTEC cameras showe a significant traffic buildup, consisting mostly of semi-trucks, on the I-190 North in Lewiston and Buffalo. Trucks near the Peace Bridge are being escorted to a staging area to help alleviate some of the congestion.
