Royal Ascot started well for the North with Jim Goldie winning the King Charles II Stakes, writes Marcus Armytage, and it can end in similar fashion when Kevin Ryan sends Inisherin south for Saturday’s Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
Stand-out sprinters in Europe who win everything have been in short supply over the past few years but, having won the Commonwealth Cup impressively 12 months ago, Inisherin, along with Jasour, is one of only a couple with course and distance form, which should be worth something in a competitive, international field that includes a strong challenge from France (Lazzat, Sajir and Topgerar) and Satano Reve, who bids to become the first ever Japanese winner at Royal Ascot.
Last year Inisherin did not really go on from winning the Commonwealth and ended up having a wind operation during the close season. That seemed to have worked when he won first time up at York which should have put him spot on for today.
