Travel + Leisure’s “America’s Best Small Towns 2025” series recognized Asbury Park as the top beachside community. The listing referenced its mile-long beach, revitalized boardwalk, thriving arts and music scene, diverse dining options and inclusive spirit.
In its write-up about Asbury Park, the prominent travel magazine depicted the area as a quick yet refreshing seaside escape just 90 minutes from New York City.
From the storied musical legacy of The Stone Pony, where Bruce Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi first made their mark, to the colorful murals found throughout the city as well as the eclectic mix of restaurants and shops, Asbury Park offers something for everyone, Travel + Leisure wrote.
The article also calls out Asbury Park’s reputation as one of the most welcoming and vibrant LGBTQ+ communities in the country. It credits local residents and business owners for fostering an atmosphere that is both diverse and inclusive.
“We are deeply proud that Travel + Leisure has recognized Asbury Park as the best small beach town in America,” Asbury Park Mayor John Moor said commenting on the award.
He went on to praise the magazine’s write-up. Moor said it “captures the unique spirit of Asbury Park — a community that blends history, culture, and creativity with one of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast.”
City Manager Adam Cruz added, “This recognition is a reflection of the hard work and passion of our residents, businesses, and community partners who continue to make Asbury Park such a special place to live, work and visit. It affirms what our community has long known — that Asbury Park is truly one of America’s most unique and welcoming destinations.”
Small town excitement
To calculate the “Best Small Towns” list for 2025, Travel + Leisure said it polled industry leaders and travel agents to find towns with populations under 45,000 that excel in categories like activities, accommodations, culture and food. These areas also have a timely reason to visit, such as a new festival, hotel, restaurant or tourism initiative. Other honorees include:
