With the start of school in the canton of Zurich, the summer holidays are history in all major Swiss cantons. Time to look back – specifically at this summer's top travel destinations from Zurich Airport.
The flight search engine Skyscanner has exclusively analyzed for Travelnews which holiday destinations Swiss travelers searched for most often in July and August 2025. The data covers all searches made from the beginning of the year through mid-August.
Interestingly, the top spot doesn’t go to a specific destination but to the «All Locations» filter. Choosing this option fixes Zurich as the departure point while leaving the destination open. This suggests that many travelers are seeking maximum flexibility, looking for inspiration – or perhaps just clicking on the default search option.
Right behind the top spot is Bangkok – and this in the middle of summer. The Thai capital is no longer just a winter classic. Between street food, glittering temples, and rooftop bars, the metropolis now attracts visitors even during the rainy season – not least thanks to low prices and attractive package deals with beach destinations.
Close on its heels is Mallorca, the Swiss's perennial favorite island. Beaches and hidden coves, lively tapas bars, and charming mountain villages like Valldemossa make it a perennial favorite.
Then the European cities dominate: London (4th place) attracts with pubs, musicals and its legendary markets; Istanbul (5th) seduces as a melting pot between East and West; Barcelona (6th) delights with Gaudí's masterpieces and Mediterranean beach flair; and Lisbon (7th) enchants with its hills, fados and pastéis de nata.
Also high on the list: Antalya (8th), the gateway to the Turkish Riviera – perfect for all-inclusive resorts, but also for excursions to ancient sites like Perge or Aspendos. Porto (9th), with its colorful houses along the Douro River and its famous port wine, follows. Rounding out the top ten is Rome, the Eternal City steeped in history.
