The secret, if it ever was one is out: Rhode Island has one of the best summer destinations in the country.
USA TODAY’s 10BEST Readers’ Choice Awards recently named the best summer getaways in the country, naming a combination of beach, mountains and entertainment venues they recommend for travel.
The annual rankings highlight the best in travel, food and lifestyle, and winners are chosen by a public voting poll after being nominated by industry experts. In the 2025 summer awards, ranking seasonal attractions like state parks, hiking trails and outdoor concerts across the country, Block Island placed seventh in the summer travel destination category – the only New England destination to make the list.
Here’s what earned the Rhode Island spot a place on the ranking.
According to USA TODAY, Block Island is a beach lover’s paradise: “A quintessential summer retreat, Block Island, Rhode Island, offers around 17 miles of unspoiled beaches, scenic bluffs, and historic lighthouses. Visitors can enjoy activities like sailing, kayaking, and hiking.”
Outside of the beach, USA TODAY also praises the island’s diverse dining scene and special events, including “the Block Island Arts and Artisans Festival in August, showcasing local crafts for art lovers, while foodies will enjoy fresh seafood and farm-to-table options.”
