According to Airbnb’s 2025 Winter Travel Trends Survey[1], the colder months have become a popular time to explore, unwind and reconnect. Flexible work schedules, hybrid lifestyles and an interest in meaningful experiences are influencing when and how Indian travellers plan their trips.
The survey indicates that 55% of travellers plan winter trips annually, highlighting how cooler weather, scenic landscapes and better value influence this preference.
Indians are travelling in winter for both relaxation and seasonal experiences. Almost 30% of respondents said they travel to celebrate the seasonal holidays. Nearly 30% cited travel to relax. Almost 20% travel to discover seasonal or cultural experiences available during winter.
Nearly half of all winter travellers come from GenZ and Millennial cohorts, choosing winter travel for its comfort, cooler weather and scenic landscapes.
Indians continue to travel with their closest circles. Almost 50% travel with their partner or spouse. One-third travel with friends. Almost 30% plan trips with multi-generational families. This reflects a preference for shared experiences and contributes to the demand for larger homes, villas and unique stays, which continues to shape Airbnb’s presence in India.
Airbnb’s internal search data[2] shows growing interest in destinations offering warmth, nature and culture. Goa and Kerala remain preferred choices, with Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram, South Goa and Kochi drawing interest for their beaches, cafés and coastal environments.
In the hills, Manali emerges as a key winter destination, while Mussoorie and Rishikesh continue to attract travellers with their views, weather and outdoor activities. Cities such as Udaipur and Jaipur appeal to travellers interested in heritage and cultural experiences. Rising interest in Varanasi and Vrindavan suggests increased curiosity among younger travellers for spiritual-leisure journeys.
Amanpreet Bajaj, Country Head – Airbnb India and Southeast Asia, Airbnb said, “The way India travels is rapidly changing. Today’s travellers are seeking experiences that are spontaneous, expressive, and immersive. From Goa’s beaches and Kerala’s backwaters to mountain getaways in Manali and Mussoorie and the cultural heritage of Udaipur and Jaipur, we’re seeing Indians explore their own country in new and meaningful ways. As this shift gathers pace, Airbnb is focused on helping people discover homes and hosts that make every journey feel personal, inspiring, and true to the spirit of where they travel.”
The findings from Airbnb’s 2025 Winter Travel Trends Survey show how travel is becoming an essential part of everyday life, helping travellers discover different parts of India and the world. With travellers seeking stays that combine comfort, design and a sense of belonging, Airbnb continues to support flexible and meaningful travel across India.
